We organize a course in meditation on the weekend 11th and 12th of May, with instruction and guidance of many types of meditation, in a friendly and safe atmosphere.
The instructor is the Norwegian monk Nitho, who with his 15 years of full-time training under Ajahn Brahm in Australia, has all the expertise needed to teach. He is already a valued teacher in Norway, where he has been teaching for a couple of years. Ajahn Nitho also taught a joint retreat with Venerable Chanda from England. A retreat that provided the opportunity for teaching and experience from both a male and female ordained person, which was greatly appreciated.
Venerable Canda, also a student of Ajahn Brahm, is now setting up a center in Oxford through the Anukampa Bhikkhuni Project.
This retreat is open for everybody, discussions, curiosity and questions are appreciated. This will be a weekend of trying out many methods, short meditation sessions and time for small talk – but we’re trying to focus inward this weekend.
The aim is to give participants personal experience of meditation and mental focus, which can be applied in situations of stress, fatigue, negativity and worries – making life easier. Or to improve an already good life! The course is also a foundation for further learning and development.

Energiverkstedet
Equipment
It offers meditation cushions, chairs and mats. However, we still recommend that anyone who has their own equipment to bring and use it: chair, stool, seat cushions, mat.
During meditation, comfort is important, and equipment can be left in the studio all weekend.
Food
The retreat includes lunch on both days as well as coffee, tea and snacks during the days.
Meditation
During a meditation course, we put aside the world on the outside to reach peace on the inside. Depending on your experience level, effort is required, especially at the beginning.
Meditation practised over a few days can create a peaceful, harmonious, happy and light mind, and the deeper the meditation is, the stronger the experience will be. Meditation is the eighth factor in the Buddha’s Eightfold Path, which places meditation in a larger necessary context for the practice to result in insight and wisdom about our own human nature – and it is these insights that result in the mind’s long-term change towards peace , ease and freedom.
As described in the Noble Eightfold Path, meditation builds on knowledge, right intentions, ethics/moral, efforts to lead the mind in a positive way and mindfulness.
A mind in harmony and peace relieves stress and positively affects body and health. But meditation as part of the Eightfold Path is primarily a tool for better quality of life and wisdom.
Literature
We recommend a small book on meditation called Kindfulness, which is an expanded and improved version of the free booklet Basic Method for Meditation, published by Wisdom Publications, Boston, USA. It provides a simple, short and effective introduction to meditation. The book is in English, but the free booklet is available in both English and Norwegian.
