Pali language course

This text has been updated on 27th of February 2025:

We plan to set up an intensive course in the Buddhist Pali language during 2025/2026. The course will run full-time for 9 days. The first part is a thorough introduction to the language and grammar where we work with simple sentences. In the second part of the course, the participants themselves and as a group will translate a simpler, but real teaching from the Buddha from Pali into English − which is actually not that difficult.

We have found a professor from Sweden who will be responsible for the teaching, and both the teaching and all teaching materials will be in English. This will be a small course for between 10 and 15 people, and since we will be a small group, we will apply for premises we can borrow for free − for example, a cabin in the mountains. All teaching tools will be digital, and require your own laptop.

We plan to carry out the course October/November 2025, or January/February 2026.

We are now working on defining the content of the different days, finding a place to be, and which dates are possible.

Ajahn Nitho will also be a participant in the course to refresh his own skills in the Pali language.

Aims and Objectives

The aim of the course is to give participants an opportunity to get closer to the Buddha’s original teachings, in order to find inspiration, knowledge and insights for their own practice. The teachings often become more alive and come closer through such a course.
