Today, DNBF has about 80 members, but due to changes in the regulations, to be able to receive state financial support, we must now hva at least 100 members by 1st of January 2026.. This will give us the financial basis to offer activities and develop the society further.
Free membership and criteria
It costs nothing to become a member of the DNBF faith community, but you cannot be a member of other faith communities at the same time. To become a member, you must be a resident of Norway and be over 15 years old. Parents can also register children under the age of 15. Norwegian citizenship is not a requirement – DNBF is open to anyone who wants to be part of the community. If you are already a member of another religious or faith community, you can easily de-register – see the bottom of the page.
Full gender equality
DNBF lives up to early Buddhism, which from the start 2500 years ago, had full gender equality between the sexes − at all levels. This means that women and men have equal opportunities to follow the monastic path, as well as participate in teaching and practice at all levels. We work for a community where everyone has equal opportunities to practice and learn.
We are working to establish a retreat center
One of our most important and realistic goals is to establish a retreat center in central Eastern Norway, surrounded by quiet beautiful nature. The center will accommodate monastics and offer retreats with internal and external instructors − so a continuous focus on the full spectrum of the Buddha's teachings. This will be an important resource for the community and contribute to in-depth practice and understanding.
Meanwhile…
DNBF will have a strong focus on arranging shorter and longer retreats in different places in Norway and the Nordic countries. From the autumn of 2025, we will also establish ourselves in pleasant premises in the center of Oslo, where we will arrange regular activities one day each month. These gatherings will provide opportunities to learn more about Buddhism, deepen your practice, and meet like-minded people in an inclusive community.
Become part of DNBF – together we create a stronger Buddhist community. Sign up on our website today and help us achieve our goal. Share the message with your friends and family!
Sincerely
