We need your help before the holidays

Only 8 new members will secure NOK 155,000 in financial support!

From 2026, the state will increase the membership requirement for state financial support from 50 to 100 members and the Buddhist Society of Norway (DNBF) is approaching an important milestone: We now count 92 and only 8 members are missing to receive NOK 155,000 in financial support next year.

For a small society, this means a boost that makes it easier to continue what we are already doing: creating space for silence, learning and community. We are rarely actively seeking members; DNBF has grown naturally through retreats, teaching and the people who find their way to us.

Now we hope for some help in this last stage before the new year.

Would you like to register as a member − or − do you know someone who might want to support us?

Remember that you can now immediately check digitally your current faith affiliation − see further down.

Membership is free, and every single sign-up counts! Remember that those with parental responsibility for a child under the age of 15 can register the child in or out.

We want to make the Buddha’s early teachings accessible, simple and down-to-earth in an environment that emphasizes equality and a warm community. Early Buddhism is the foundation of the forest tradition after Ajahn Chah and Ajahn Mun, to which DNBF belongs.

In the years to come, we will work towards:

  • establish a retreat center in Eastern Norway
  • offer more retreats
  • invite inspiring teachers from home and abroad
  • further develop a vibrant and inclusive Dhamma environment

Thank you very much for considering supporting us, either by signing up or by tipping someone you think might benefit from DNBF.

Warm regards,
The Board of DNBF

Prerequisites for membership

If we are to receive state financial support for you as a member, the state requires that you are not a member of other religious or belief-based communities, and you must live in Norway. People who have reached the age of 15 can register themselves in or out. Those who have parental responsibility for a child under the age of 15 can register the child.

Are you unsure if you are a member of a christian church?

Many are members of the Church of Norway without knowing it. Either because they have been baptized, or they have resigned, but have been automatically re-enrolled.

You can easily check if you are a member and resign from there by logging in to their membership page with BankID.

Are you wondering where you are registered?

You get immediate insight into which faith communities you are registered by, by logging in to My Page at the Brønnøysund Register Centre using BankID:

https://person.brreg.no/nb/minside

You can also call the Brønnøysund Register Centre on 75 00 75 00 and ask for a printout of your current registered faith membership. You must state your social security number, and the information will be sent by post.

DNBF – The Buddhist Soceity of Norway

Our association was founded in 2021, and the goal is to allow people to access teaching, get help with their practice, and experience the realization of the Buddha’s teachings regardless of age, skin color and faith. We have no mystical shortcut to convey, but a solid, proven gradual training, which for the vast majority takes many years.
