Welcome to Shambala Gatherings, a 7 day silent retreat with Ajahn Nitho, from 31st of March to 7th of April 2027 in Skinnskatteberg, Sweden.

Although the society now mainly works with property and buildings, some larger events are now starting to fall into place. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful summer!

The annual retreat at Venabu was arranged in April 2026, and all 60 participants got to see the last remnants of the snow in the mountains, as well as inspiration and good opportunities for practice.

Venerable Nitho was invited to participate and teach at a Vesak celebration in Belgium, and use the opportunity to listen to advice on how DNBF can establish a center for both our members, bhikkhus and bhikkhunis in Norway.

DNBF together with the Buddhist Society of Denmark, arrange a long-weekend retreat with accommodation in Denmark.

At the request of a member of DNBF, the board wrote a statement of principles on equality, which was read out at the annual meeting in March 2026.

The society is involved in arranging a global conference, and has reserved 10 tickets for an otherwise fully booked conference with 2500 people, Ajahn Brahmali is coming this summer to teach, and we are planning a community meeting with a focus on the society's future center next Sunday.

DNBF's annual general meeting 2026 will be on Wednesday 25th of March at 18:30 in the meeting room 'Kampen' at Deichman Bjørvika library, Anne-Cath. Vestlys plass 1, 0150 Oslo. It will also be possible to participate over the internet, see our website on that day for connection.

The first longer retreat in Sweden was at Finnhamn, in the archipelago outside Stockholm. The Swedish group, together with DNBF, invited bhikkhuni Vimala as an instructor together with Nitho.

When a vision of silence and community begins to take shape in the world, both heart and craftsmanship are needed. DNBF is now at the threshold of realizing the dream of a place where tranquility, practice and learning can find lasting space - and invites you who have construction experience to contribute with your wisdom in this meaningful project.

Nitho was invited to Peder at Podimo. Peder Kjøs has for during years created a podcast series where the purpose is a deep dive into our inner geography, and Nitho was invited as a guest.

DNBF in tailwind: Fully booked retreats, international attention and new ventures in 2026

In January 2026, DNBF was visited by NRK TV - The Daily Review, and a short nice presentation of our society was created.

Nitho was to become a successful economist, but in stead he became a Buddhist monk. He partly blames the mountains for that.

What a community - thank you very much! DNBF's board believes the membership campaign was a success, we now have 116 members in the faith community.

Throughout the year 2026, we will arrange sangha meetings one Sunday morning each month. It's an open house, and everyone is welcome!

The board of DNBF is now asking for help from our members! The state has changed the requirements for receiving financial support, and we are only missing 8 members!

Nitho was invited to Łódź in Poland to teach a weekend workshop on basic meditation and the eightfold path.

A Norwegian-language silent longer retreat for those with little experience was the goal, and so it was. We also wanted to build experience with filming the instructions given, while the Northern Lights set the scene outdoors.

Mikko Asunta, who has worked to build up our sister organization in Finland, now chooses to start a full-time training, and picks up the brown robe.

A dream came true − a photo story from a long retreat at Jhana Grove retreat center in Australia.

Mona is retired, but still works a little as a marine biologist and consultant in her own company. She likes to be out trekking and just returned from the DNT mountain cabin at Finse with hikes to Klemsbu and Hardangerjøkulen and bicycled Rallarvegen to Flåm. She meditates daily, does yoga and spinning and enjoys good food and drink. She has previously been on the board of DNBF and has now become a DNBF ambassador.

The board of DNBF and some members have now together described a dream for our future when it comes to property and buildings to promote inspiration, practice and the social.

DNBF was visited by a DNT journalist about our common tumbling area in the mountains − and reading the article is recommended. There will be teaching in Oslo, and some selected members will participate as pilots for streaming the teaching live. The retreat at Venabu at the end of October takes shape.

The meeting with the monastics in southern Italy was more than a volunteer stay. It was a reminder of why the fight for equality in Buddhism means so much.
