A very nice group of 25 people gathered at Natalia’s Dance and Yoga Center in Trondheim 16th and 17th of March, to practice meditation and hear Jaran de los Santos Olsen’s approach to Buddhism and the human condition. Or how do you translate “The human condition”?

Together with the audience, Jaran explored three paths to understanding and liberation: Unconditional peace, love and insight into the animal, emotional and cognitive parts of us respectively.

At the end of the weekend, the participants were happy to note that they were full in both body and mind, with a replenishment of the latter that really gave them a taste for more and nourishment for a long time to come.

Jaran is a Buddhist teacher and a clinical psychologist specialising in Emotion Focused Therapy. His background is from the Ajahn Chah lineage of the Thai forest tradition, and he spent 6 years as a monk in Wat Pah Nanachat. For Jaran, honest inquiry into the nature of reality and experience is central, and so he draws upon wisdom in whatever tradition it is found - but first and foremost from one’s own direct experience. Jaran is now living in Oslo, Norway.
