The board of DNBF is currently perhaps not very active externally, but the reason is that a lot is happening internally − and there are important long-term tasks that are done and important decisions that are made. As reported at the annual meeting in 2026, the priority now is to lift the society significantly with its own center.

Organizationally, work is being done on a foundation that, together with the society, will own and operate the center. Financially, a lot is in place, and work is being done on municipal applications. Work is also being done to find a female spiritual leader who will be equal to the current male spiritual leader − the constitution provide equal authority, responsibilities and rights for the spiritual leaders. We are seriously working towards a 2500 years old standard called “the four fold sangha” – the four groups of members: 1) female members, 2) male members, 3) female full-time members/teachers (bhikkhunis) and 4) male full-time members/teachers (bhikkhus).

We have passed 35,000 downloads of teaching on social media in 2026 and the websites are reaching new heights in the number of page spreads. Several large retreats are in place internally for 2027 and 2028, and we look forward to participating in the global Buddhist conference this November.

So our society is growing well, and we need a place tailored for practice, training and development − for some full-time, and for many other shorter retreats, courses and workshops. This is a bigger puzzle to put together, and it will take time, but we now have a lot of positive signals around us, and we have a nice progression. We will make more announcements when projects become more concrete.

Wishing everybody a beautiful autumn,
DNBF Board of Directors

Need an auditor

In order to establish a foundation for the retreat center, we need the help of an auditor. Is there an auditor among our members who can help? Or does anyone know an auditor who can help a voluntary society?

Leading community meetings in Oslo

We are now working on a teaching plan until next summer, and want to be able to offer monthly community meetings in Oslo. To succeed with this, we hope that some of our members will contribute by leading one or more of the gatherings.

You do not need extensive experience to sign up. It can be just sharing a text, lead a short reflection or contribute something you are already familiar with. We are happy to help with content, arrangements and practical preparation.

If you are curious, or feel that you might want to contribute, you are very welcome to get in touch. Feel free to send an email to post@dnbf.org, and we will have a chat.

Social media help

The board is looking for a member who wants to contribute with the society’s activities on social media. This could be, for example, sharing information about comunity meetings and events, making simple posts or helping to keep our channels alive.

The work is done digitally, so you can contribute no matter where in the country you live. You don’t have to be an expert on social media — the most important thing is that you want to contribute and want to help reach more people.

Is this something for you? Send an email to post@dnbf.org and we will be happy to tell you more about what the task entails.

The roller coaster

Our ambassador Erlend Neergaard got an article published in the magazine DNT Fjell og Vidde, and DNBF has been given permission to re-publish and translate into English. The article is about the intersection of spirituality and nature − how nature helps us to clarify our minds, and the path towards wisdom. Find the article here:

Nithos 3 months retreat is over

The silent annual 3-month retreat in the mountains for Nitho is coming to an end, and in the future there will be teaching at the global conference in Poland, then a retreat in Denmark, Sweden and later in Norway, but first and foremost it is our center that gets more focus.
